The Burnaby Blue Foundation has teamed up with the second Burnaby Blue expedition being carried out by the Household Cavalry. The expedition was originally planned by Sacha Tomes and taken on by Tom Archer-Burton.
The team covered much of Southern Africa and ended up in a major charitable project in Lesotho. This project was renovating a school for AIDS orphans and the results speak volumes - please follow the links above and see for yourself the huge amount of work and incredible difference that the team made.
The picture to the left is Thuso school where the team worked solidly for a three week period in July 2008. It might look remote - it is! The school has now really changed and most importantly is now safe and secure.
And Lesotho really isn't what you might imagine if you have a traditional picture of Africa in your mind with a hot sun beating down on on the open plains - this picture really is what it can look like!
The project was carried out in partnership with the Sentebale charity www.sentebale.org and Prince Harry, the charity's patron, was part of the Burnaby Blue team. The team helpied to build a school in Thuso, Lesotho and has carried out several major tasks to help the project to it's conclusion. The expedition members and their involvement was all paid for by the Burnaby Blue Foundation and £16,700 of work has now been funded with a large proportion being carried out by the expedition members.
How they got there - in Landrovers much the same way the original expedition got to Azerbaijan. The only difference being that these were rather more modern!
